Maja Erdeljanin is a visual artist, writer, and curator from Novi Sad, Serbia, born in 1971. Her artistic practice shows dual concern for ethics and aesthetics. She is exploring philosophical and ecological themes, including healing power of nature, micro vs. macro cosmos narrative and personal vs. general value systems. At the same time she has a particular interest in the concept of beauty and harmony, with a distinct focus on the emotional and psychological significance of color. For Maja, color is not just a visual element, but an integral part of our inner lives and experiences.
Erdeljanin pursued her undergraduate and master’s studies at the Department of Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. She became an active member of the art scene in Novi Sad and Vojvodina in 1992 and has been exhibiting widely since the late 1990s. Her travels across Europe have allowed her to showcase her work in solo and group exhibitions in various cities and towns. In addition to her exhibitions, she has participated in numerous international artistic colonies and symposiums across Germany, Austria, Greece, Norway, Italy, countries of ex Yugoslavia, and many other.
Erdeljanin’s contributions extend beyond her individual artistic practice. As a curator, she has organized over 700 exhibitions of contemporary artists in different venues, ranging from galleries and museums to non-gallery spaces. She has been a prominent figure in promoting Novi Sad’s artists, both locally and internationally. Her work as a curator includes significant projects such as organizing the Novi Sad Salons and the exhibition Cityscape in collaboration with the museums of Novi Sad. Additionally, Maja is one of the founders of the international artistic symposium Art Links, which has been running since 2012, fostering cross-cultural collaborations in the visual arts.
Erdeljanin’s accomplishments have earned her recognition through awards and numerous public and private collections that house her works. Through both her art and curatorial efforts, she continues to play a vital role in shaping the cultural landscape of Novi Sad and beyond.
